For the sides and back we chose .040" galvanized steel we purchased from a local heating & cooling shop. They make ducts with it. Two 4' x 8' pieces are all you need. We used two smaller pieces and put them together, but it wasn't worth the savings. |
Although this is our steel version enclosure we can still use the same design to make the surround for the wood bench. You will need 24' of 2" x 1/8" angle for the corners which are 4' tall and one 8' length for the top front which holds the sides rigid and to hold the simple closet door slider we used for are plexiglas doors. | |

Pre-drill the 4' sections of angle aluminum. about every 4" to pop rivet the metal and plexiglas. |

Peel back the liner one corner at a time and install the angle aluminum with 3/16" thru bolts. 2 on each side of the angle. |

Put the liner back up and secure. After you get all 4 of the corner angles on and plum, measure and install the front connector angle on top of the 2 front angles. If you make the angle aluminum square the steel and plexiglas will be easy to install. If you want you can put 1" x 1/8" aluminum angle on the top of the back and sides to make it more solid. You can use short pieces of angle to connect the angle aluminum together. |

To install the sides and back on the bottom, cut and test fit it to the bench. While it is on mark the holes that you pre drilled on the angle onto the steel. Then drill holes about every 4" on the bottom to put in your #12 x 1.25" round head sheet metal screws. Drill all the holes off the bench if you can.(chips) When you install the steel use a good amount of caulk on the angles and bottom. If you use the top angles there is no need for caulk on them. You really need 2 people and a lot of clamps to do the final install. |

For the front edge we found some drip edge flashing. |

Lay a bead of caulk down BEFORE putting the flashing on, this allows it to squeeze out and form a water proof joint. Wipe away the excess caulk. |

A row of screws completes the front edge. |
